Dr. Roy Madigan, D.V.M., is not just a veterinarian. He is one of the leading experts in canine Chagas disease in the United States.

• Founder of Vida Pharmacal, focused on breakthrough parasitic disease treatments
• Filed the first veterinary drug patent for anti-T. cruzi activity in dogs
• Principal scientist for the U.S. military working dog Chagas treatment study
• Veterinary lead for the Texas Chagas Task Force alongside the CDC and UT Health
• Pioneer in developing diagnostic and treatment protocols for infected dogs

Your pet is being treated by the same expert helping shape how Chagas disease is understood nationwide.

Get In Touch

Chagas disease progresses in stages. The earlier it is identified:

• The more treatment options are available
• The better heart damage can be managed
• The higher the chance of improving quality of life

Waiting can mean irreversible cardiac damage.

Early Detection. Advanced Treatment. Led by One of the Nation’s Top Experts.

Do not wait for symptoms to appear.

Chagas disease is often silent early on, but warning signs may include:

• Lethargy or decreased activity
• Fainting or collapse
• Irregular heartbeat
• Difficulty breathing
• Unexplained weight loss

If your dog spends time outdoors, lives in Central Texas, or has been exposed to insects, they may be at risk even without symptoms.

If your dog may have been exposed to kissing bugs, do not wait. Chagas disease can silently damage the heart before symptoms appear. Early diagnosis can make the difference.

At Central Texas Vet, we go beyond standard testing.
Dr. Madigan is actively developing advanced serologic testing methods to improve detection accuracy.

Your dog’s evaluation may include:

• Comprehensive physical exam
• Cardiac screening
• Specialized blood testing for T. cruzi
• Advanced diagnostics when needed

Early detection allows for better management and improved outcomes.

Chagas disease is caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi, transmitted by “kissing bugs” commonly found in Texas.
Once infected, dogs may appear normal while the parasite attacks the heart and other organs.

Without intervention, Chagas can lead to:

• Heart disease
• Arrhythmias
• Sudden death

Questions? We Have Answers

If your dog may be at risk, schedule an evaluation today and get answers from one of the leading experts in the field.

If you’ve ever wanted to try natural pet remedies alongside leading-edge veterinary care, you’re not alone. Plenty of pet parents are intrigued by the idea of holistic pet care. Some might worry that homeopathic remedies for animals have no place in the modern veterinary field. But that’s not the case at ().Here at Androscoggin, we believe holistic pet care and top-notch medical care go hand in hand. That’s why we’re sharing three of our favorite natural remedies for common pet problems. Make sure you check with your pet’s veterinarian before you give your furry friend any natural pet supplements or remedies.
Our Favorite Homeopathic Remedies for Animals

1. Aromatherapy for Anxiety
Does your pet howl and yowl when you leave for work in the morning, no matter how much time you spend cuddling and playing with her before you go? Does he get anxious during thunderstorms or fireworks?Aromatherapy can help.Rose, lavender, and chamomile are three calming essential oils you can use around your pe,t but never feed your pet any essential oil. Instead, look for calming sprays made specifically for pups or kitties. You can find them in most pet stores. If you have an essential oils diffuser at home, put a drop or two of lavender, chamomile, or rose oil in the diffuser, according to the device’s instructions. Make sure your pet cannot access the diffuser.Soon, both of you will feel that anxiety melting away.
2. Natural Pet Supplements for Joint, Heart, and Brain Health
High-quality natural pet supplements can do wonders for the health of your four-legged friends. Many veterinarians—our team included!—recommend fish oil that’s rich in omega-3 fatty acids like EPA and DHA.These fatty acids can help reduce inflammation, which is great for your pet’s joints. They can also support healthy brain and heart function.Glucosamine and chondroitin are supplements that, when taken together, may help restore your pet’s joints and treat osteoarthritis symptoms. Glucosamine is derived from shellfish, while chondroitin can be found in the connective tissue of animals from cows to sharks.Ask your veterinarian which natural pet supplements can help your pet the most!
3. Herbal Treatments for Dry Skin
Winter air can be tough on your pet’s skin. Dry skin can lead to chafing, discomfort, scratching, hot spots, and even infections. Thankfully, there are several herbal treatments for pets that can help alleviate the dryness. One of the quickest herbal pet treatments is the tea-bag trick. You can steep a bag of green tea in hot water and then let it cool all the way down. Apply the cool bag to your pet’s hotspot or itchy area for calming comfort from the Camellia sinensis plant. And while these aren’t herbs, per se, you can also use coconut oil, olive oil, or a homemade oatmeal bath to ease dry or itchy skin.
Naturally Nourishing
Nature provides all sorts of beneficial pet remedies. But not everything that grows naturally is safe for your pet. Make sure to check with your veterinarian before trying any natural pet remedy or essential oil for pets.If you need a veterinarian in Brunswick or Topsham, Maine, reach out to our team at (). We can’t wait to meet you and your pet!

Wellness Exams

Bad breath isn't just annoying - it's often a sign of deeper health issues. Dental disease in pets can lead to oral pain, local or systemic infection, tooth loss, and even heart, liver, or kidney complications.

Dental Care

Fleas, ticks, and intestinal worms are not just a nuisance, they are dangerous. These tiny pests can cause serious health issues like Lyme disease, heartworm disease, and tapeworms.

Parasite Prevention

Vaccines are one of the most important tools we have to protect pets from serious, often deadly diseases. Whether you have a rambunctious or a relaxed pet, vaccinations help your pet build strong immunity and avoid preventable illness.

Vaccinations

Comprehensive surgical services, from routine procedures to complex operations, all are performed with expert care.

Pet Surgeries

When your pet isn't acting like themselves, diagnostic testing helps us find the reason. From bloodwork, urine testing, and fecal exams to x-rays, these tests give us a window into what's happening inside, so we can take action before things get worse.

Diagnostic Testing

When pets get sick or injured, you want answers fast. Advanced imaging gives us a deeper look, without invasive procedures.
